Story
Hi, I’m Gumdrop ??I’m a 1-year-old Terrier mix who is looking for a very special kind of home.I’m a smart little guy who has made a lot of progress since arriving at the shelter. I’ve been working hard on my leash skills using a Transitional Leash, which helps me stay focused during walks, and I continue to improve every day.I`ve been adopted twice now, and unfortunately both homes discovered that I wasn`t the right fit for their families. Most recently, I became uncomfortable with one of the male members of the household and attempted to bite him. While no one was injured, it made it clear that I need a home with someone who understands dogs like me and has experience working through behavioral challenges.Because of this, I am looking for an experienced adult-only home. I would not do well in a busy household with lots of visitors or young children. I thrive best in a calm, predictable environment where I know what to expect.I do seem to have a preference for women, though I can absolutely form positive relationships with some men as well. My future family should be patient, willing to earn my trust, and committed to helping me continue building confidence at my own pace. The good news is that once I know and trust my people, I`m a fun little dog with plenty of personality. I enjoy my walks, love spending time with the people I`ve bonded with, and have so much potential in the right hands.Gumdrop isn`t looking for just any home—he`s looking for his home. The kind of home where his family understands him, respects his boundaries, and is willing to help him continue becoming the best dog he can be.For the right experienced adopter, Gumdrop has so much love and loyalty to give. He`s simply waiting for someone who sees past his challenges and recognizes the wonderful little dog underneath. ????Gumdrop is neutered, dewormed, microchipped and is up to date with vaccines. His adoption fee is $500.00, plus $8.50 for the dog license if you are a resident of NYC. Gumdrop will also get one free exam with one of our participating veterinarians within 30 days of his adoption. If you`d like to meet him please visit, we`re conveniently located in Windsor Terrace, Brooklyn near the F train (Ft Hamilton Pkwy) and the B16 bus. We`re open daily for adoptions from 11am to 5:30pm.Gumdrop can`t wait to meet you!Sean Casey Animal Rescue153 E. 3 St.between Ft Hamilton Pkwy & Cat

Story
Hi, I’m Dusty! I’m an 8-year-old Shepherd mix who came to the shelter from ACC. We don`t know much about what my life looked like before I got here, but we`ve learned one very important thing about me:I think the world is pretty scary.I`m a very sweet dog, but I`m also extremely timid. New places, unfamiliar situations, and even going for a walk can feel overwhelming to me if I don`t trust that the person beside me knows what they`re doing.Put an inexperienced person on the other end of my leash and I may tuck my tail, put on the brakes, and decide:NOPE. WE SHOULD DEFINITELY NOT GO THAT WAY.But something interesting happens when I`m walking with a confident handler. They give me a little encouragement, keep moving forward, and show me through their own calm confidence that there`s nothing to worry about. And suddenly...I walk!Quite nicely, actually. It`s tempting when you see a frightened dog like me to crouch down, shower me with reassurance, and tell me over and over that everything is okay. But what I really need is someone who can calmly show me that it`s okay. Not someone mean. Not someone harsh.Someone confident.I need a person who can look at something I`m convinced is terrifying and communicate, `Nah, Dusty. We`re good. Come on.`And then off we go.I`m looking for an experienced dog owner who understands fearful dogs and can help me build confidence rather than accidentally reinforce my fears. With the right person guiding me, I have so much potential to discover that the world isn`t nearly as frightening as I`ve convinced myself it is.Because of my insecurities, I should not live with small children. A quiet home with adults or older kids who understand my needs will be a much better fit.I do like other dogs! Sometimes I can come on a little strong when I`m excited to meet them, though, and not every dog appreciates my enthusiasm. Any potential canine roommates should therefore be a good personality match for me.At 8 years old, Dusty isn`t looking for someone to teach him a million fancy tricks. He`s looking for something much more important:Someone who can teach him how to be brave. If you`re calm, confident, experienced, and willing to show a worried older gentleman that the world can actually be a pretty wonderful place, Dusty is ready to follow your lead. Story
Hi, I’m Chomper! I`m Chomper, a 9-year-old Shepherd mix, and apparently I`ve reached an age where people are going to start calling me an:`OLDER GENTLEMAN.`Excuse me?I would like to dispute this classification.Do older gentlemen get so excited about walks that they occasionally forget their leash manners and start pulling?I THINK NOT.I originally came from the city shelter, where I had been surrendered by my previous owner. Now I`ve found myself starting over at nine years old, and I`m really hoping people don`t look at that number and decide my best years are behind me.Because I have an announcement:I AM NOT DONE YET.I`ve got walks left in me!I`ve got adventures left in me!I`ve got things to sniff!I`ve got people to love!I`ve got an entire house to fill with the particular kind of joy that only comes from having a dog waiting for you when you get home.I`m a really nice guy, although I could use a little polishing when it comes to my leash skills. Sometimes I get excited and pull.Listen.THERE WAS SOMETHING INTERESTING OVER THERE.I had to investigate. With some consistency and continued training, I`m perfectly capable of working on my manners. What I`m really worried about isn`t my leash skills, though. It`s my age.I know there are puppies here.I know there are young dogs here.I know nine might sound old when you`re looking through adoption listings. But please don`t skip over me because of a number.I don`t want to spend this chapter of my life sitting in a shelter waiting for somebody who never comes.I want a home.I want a family.I want somewhere comfortable to sleep at night and somebody who`s genuinely happy to see me in the morning.I`m nine.So what?My heart still works perfectly. My tail still knows how to wag.My legs still know exactly where they`re going—even if they occasionally try to get there faster than the person holding my leash. And I`ve still got a whole lot of Chomper left to give.So don`t adopt me because you feel sorry for the older dog.Adopt me because you look at me and realize:`That guy could make my life a whole lot better.`Because I`m pretty darn sure I can.Chomper is neutered, dewormed, microchipped and is up to date with vac

Story
Meet Evander, a young Black Mouth Cur mix who is as sweet and easy-going as they come. With his handsome tan-and-white coat, soulful dark eyes, and endearingly floppy ears, he is a total head-turner! Evander can be a little timid when meeting new people at first, but it only takes a moment for his warm, friendly personality to shine through. Once he knows you`re a friend, he`s all affection! He enjoys taking in the sights and smells of the neighborhood at a comfortable pace. Evander would do wonderfully in a home that gives him just a few quiet moments to warm up during new introductions. Whether you are looking for a loyal walking buddy for afternoon strolls or a sweet shadow to keep you company indoors, he is eager to find a loving family ready to give him the cuddles and affection he deserves!
